![]() Rotron M and L Multistage Blowers are unusually compact and light in comparison to conventional multistage turbines. These blowers operate quietly and efficiently and contain no sliding or reciprocating parts. They can be provided as motor or belt driven blowers.
Multistage Blowers have uniquely large pressure-to-volume rations and thus are ideal for applications requiring relatively small volumes of air to be moved against large pressure heads. Typical applications include cooling of U.H.F. radio transmitter tube seals and microwave cavities, sampling of air for nuclear radiation and use in artificial lungs and in computer tape slack control. These blowers can be used for suction, for pressure and in closed air circuit systems.
Multistage Blowers come in a variety of voltages and frequencies and are available with a variety of inlet and outlet configurations. Most units are available with an optional internal Fan Performance Sensor (FPS) or external Low Speed Warning Device (LSWD).

Applications
These multistage blowers have uniquely large pressure-to-volume ratios and thus are ideal for applications requiring relatively small volumes of air to be moved against large pressure heads. Typical applications include cooling of UHF, radio transmitter tube seals, and microwave cavities, sampling of air for nuclear radiation, and use in artificial lungs and in computer-tape slack control. Basically, these blowers can be used for suction, for pressure, and in closed air circuit systems.
Materials and Finishes
Blower and impellers are anodized aluminum and cadmium-plated steel. Housing material is steel, primed with zinc chromate, per MIL-P-8585, and finished with black enamel, per MIL-E-5557, Type IV. There is a chemical conversion coating per MIL-C-5541 plus one coat of lusterless black enamel, color *37038 per Federal Standard 595, conforming to TT-E-489, Type B. Motor frame and end bells are aluminum and are primed and finished according to the specifications listed above. The shaft and hardware are stainless steel.
The cascaded blower stages are mounted on a single, hollow stainless steel shaft and are directly driven by a 1-phase or 3-phase induction motor which is wound with Class F insulation, standard; with Class H optional. The shaft runs on two ball bearings, of special double-width construction, which are double-shielded and greased for life.
Performance Sensors
All models equipped with optional performance sensors send out a tachometer-type signal generated from a Hall sensor activated by a small permanent magnet mounted on the rotor of the blower motor. The signal depends on the blower type:

Low Speed Warning Detector (LSWD)
The Low Speed Warning Detector (LSWD) utilizes a programmable frequency switch capable of turning “on” and “off” a load such as a LED, audible alarm, back-up fan, etc., at a predetermined motor RPM. If fan speed falls below the preset value, the back-up or warning device is activated. Once fan speed exceeds the preset value, it is de-activated. The RPM value is preset at the factory between 2,000 and 20,000 RPM (actual value is determined by the specific fan performance and customer requirements) with approximately ±10% RPM hysteresis.

AMETEK Rotron has provided highly reliable fans and blowers to the military and aerospace markets since 1947. Through a broad range of product development experience, AMETEK Rotron has demonstrated its ability to design, develop, qualify and support cost effective, reliable products on aircraft and defense platforms worldwide. Our products are designed to meet specific environmental specifications (including shock and vibration, humidity, salt spray, temperature extremes, EMI, water resistance, etc). We have successfully qualified many products for use in Aerospace and Military applications, which meet, or exceed the imposed environment specifications.
With over 25 product families, a high degree of vertical integration and core competencies in the design and manufacture of aerodynamics, electromechanical assemblies, motor drives and liquid vapor cycle cooling systems, we offer the widest product range in the world, with thousands of P/N’s active and available today. At the same time, we specialize in working with our customers to create unique product configurations to address the specific cooling requirement – not only for the cooling capability, but space claim, weight, noise, power draw and system controls.
