Radar & High-Power Equipment Cooling
Engineered Cooling for Demanding Power Densities

For decades, AMETEK Rotron has supported radar and high‑power electronic systems with cooling solutions designed for continuous operation under intense thermal loads across ground‑based, naval, and airborne platforms. Our vertically integrated approach provides full control over aerodynamic design, manufacturing, assembly, and qualification testing, allowing us to develop cooling systems precisely aligned with the performance, reliability, and environmental requirements of radar and power electronics. In addition to individual fans and blowers, we engineer complete cooling assemblies, including high‑capacity airflow systems, heat exchangers, and integrated thermal systems, tailored to specific power levels, duty cycles, and operating conditions to ensure long‑term durability in demanding applications.

APPLICATION EXAMPLES
Proven Performance
AMETEK Rotron fans and blowers have a long history of successful operation across diverse platforms, from aerospace systems to rugged defense applications, where designs proven in real operating conditions continue to be selected for new programs based on demonstrated durability and consistent performance.
Max 6.5 Fan

Pedestal Electronics Cooling for Counter‑Fire Radar Systems

The Maxiax 6.5 is used for array electronics cooling on the AN/TPQ‑53 radar system, supporting high heat loads within a mobile, ground‑based counter‑fire platform. Designed as part of a multi‑fan radar suite, this fan balances airflow efficiency with rugged construction to operate reliably in harsh environments driven by vibration, sand, and wide temperature swings.

Maxiax fan

Central Power Cooling for 360° Surveillance Radar

This DC MAXIAX fan was developed for central power cooling within the TPY‑4 air surveillance radar system, where efficiency and electrical performance were tightly constrained by the available power architecture. After initial builds, the fan was refined to reduce power draw while maintaining required airflow, reflecting Rotron’s experience adapting proven designs to demanding radar electronics applications.

Max 8 Fan

Radar Array Cooling for High‑Density AESA Systems

The Maxiax 8 provides array cooling for the TPY‑4 radar, where more than 11,000 CFM is required to manage heat generated by densely packed array electronics. Customized speed control logic was incorporated to address complex airflow paths and minimize hot spots, demonstrating Rotron’s ability to tailor high‑flow fans for large, power‑intensive radar systems.

Aximax 2

Tactical Radar Cooling with Integrated EMI Mitigation

The DC Aximax 2 supports the Starlite small tactical radar, where thermal management and EMI compliance are both critical system drivers. This fan integrates onboard EMI filtering and environmental hardening, allowing it to operate within compact radar electronics while meeting demanding military qualification requirements.
